Smart Battery Sense is a wireless battery voltage and temperature sensor for Victron MPPT charge controllers.
With a voltage and temperature sensor, batteries are charged better, charging efficiency is improved and battery life is extended.
Battery charging is improved
By measuring the voltage directly at the terminal of the battery bank, errors due to voltage loss due to cable resistance are avoided. This ensures the correct charging voltage.
For lead-acid batteries, the battery temperature data is used to adjust the charging voltage: cold batteries require a higher charging voltage, while hot batteries require a lower charging voltage. For lithium batteries, the temperature data is used to interrupt charging when the batteries are too cold: charging lithium batteries at temperatures around or below freezing permanently damages cells.
The connection between Smart Battery Sense and one or more solar panels is wireless. It uses a VE.Smart network – a wireless technology based on the Bluetooth Smart function.
The transmitted data can be used simultaneously by one, two or more solar chargers connected to the same 12V, 24V or 48V battery bank. The Smart Network is configured using the VictronConnect app.
